For the past few weeks, we have noticed changes in our country’s migration policy. This is reflected in the document "Regain Control. Ensure Security. Comprehensive and Responsible Migration Strategy for Poland 2025-2030." The Council of Ministers adopted a resolution regarding this strategy on October 15, 2024. Since October 17, everyone has had access to this document. What does it entail? You will find out in our post below.
Poland's Migration Policy According to the New Resolution
"Migratory processes should not increase uncertainty in the everyday lives of the residents of Poland" – this is the first statement of the new strategy for Poland's migration policy. The critical stance towards EU migration policy is also maintained, as the government believes that it does not address contemporary challenges and difficulties arising from the proximity to Russia and Belarus.
According to the draft, changes will be introduced to the law and the functioning of the services (Border Guard and Police) to improve their ability to combat illegal human trafficking across the Polish border.
The functioning of agencies facilitating the employment of foreigners will also be modified.
The strategy also recognizes the right of a state exposed to hybrid threats to refuse entry to foreigners applying for international protection when national security is at risk.
Conditions for Obtaining Polish Citizenship
According to the new migration strategy, the process of being recognized as a Polish citizen will be subject to stricter rules. A foreigner (including those holding the Pole’s Card) will have to pass a "citizenship test" assessing their knowledge of the culture in Poland. Mandatory integration programs will also be introduced.
Assistance in Obtaining Polish Citizenship
Individuals wishing to acquire Polish citizenship will have to deal with more formalities. However, this does not mean their chances are smaller. As you may know, there are two ways to acquire Polish citizenship:
You may also apply for the restoration of Polish citizenship if you lost it before January 1, 1999. This procedure cannot be used if you voluntarily renounced your citizenship.
For people born abroad, the issue of citizenship is often unclear. In such cases, it is worth applying for confirmation of Polish citizenship.
Regardless of your situation, you can count on the support of the Civil Affairs Office. Comprehensive services for foreigners are our specialty.

As part of the strategy, changes are planned for the Border Guard, Police, and agencies facilitating foreigner employment.
