Extension of Temporary Residence Card and Work Permit for Ukrainians

Foreigners often wonder whether it is possible to extend the temporary residence card for Ukrainians – the validity of the document is not "extended." However, you can apply for a new card if the previous one is about to expire. How to do this? You will find out in our article.

Extension of Temporary Residence Card for Ukrainians
A temporary residence card is issued for a maximum of three years. After this period, it cannot be extended, but you must apply for the issuance of a new document. Just like when applying for a temporary residence permit for the first time, you need to submit:

  • 4 recent photographs,
  • Documents confirming the information provided in the application,
  • Proof of payment of the stamp duty.

This application must be submitted no later than on the last day of your legal stay in Poland.

Extension of Work Permit for Ukrainians
An employer who wishes to hire a foreigner must apply for a work permit in Poland, either type A (for a period of no more than 3 years) or type B (for a period of no more than 5 years). When this period expires, it will be necessary to extend the work permit for Ukrainians. To do this, you must submit the application to the relevant Voivodeship Office no earlier than 90 days and no later than 30 days before the current permit expires. You can submit the application in person, by mail, or online.

Visas for Ukrainians – Are They Still Required?
Foreigners still sometimes wonder how to extend a visa for Ukrainians. However, it should be noted that the European Union has abolished visas for foreign nationals of Ukrainian citizenship. This means that all Ukrainians can cross the Polish border without a visa, provided they have a biometric passport.

Submitting Applications Without Stress
The process of extending a work and residence permit in Poland can sometimes be stressful, as it requires gathering many documents. However, it doesn't have to be this way. If you want to ensure that your application is filled out correctly, contact us, and we will make the legalization of residence and work less stressful. The Citizens Affairs Office helps with resolving various issues. We can assist you with obtaining an invitation for a foreigner or residence permits (temporary or permanent). If you wish to obtain Polish citizenship, we will guide you through that process as well.

Summary
Temporary residence cards cannot be extended; before the expiration of the maximum period of three years, you need to submit an application for a new card, including recent photographs, appropriate supporting documents, and proof of payment of the stamp duty. Similarly, work permits for Ukrainians (type A or B) must be renewed by employers by submitting a new application before the current permit expires. It is also important to note that Ukrainian citizens can enter Poland without a visa due to the visa-free entry allowed with a biometric passport.
